Disaster Studys

On the 2nd day of the term Mrs Fowler came in to teach us for the day. We did some really fun studying about NZ disasters. We brainstormed and talked about lots of disasters like; Tangiwai train crash, Erebus train crash, the pink and white terraces and the Waihine to name a few. We had to decide on one event. We then went online and once we had found at least ten facts, we typed them out on a google doc and printed it. While one person continued writing, the other got a piece of coloured paper. Soon after, you had to draw a picture with a caption at the bottom describing the disaster. Once finished all of that, you lay it out on the big piece of paper and glue it on how you and your buddy would like it.
Finally, you do a nice, big heading that stands out and any other decorations. We spent the whole day doing this and it was a lot of fun. I recommend trying it yourself!

Homework for Room 2

Hi everyone, Room 2 is doing lots of research as part of their homework. Could you please allow some time for this as the children are working in groups and when one group member doesn't have their research done, it impacts on others.

We are researching a dance in different eras at the moment, then the children will start choreographing a dance of their own. This will be ongoing for the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for your help in this. Miss J.

A Perfect Autumn Day writing by Amy A

A Perfect Autumn Day

Above me the glistening blue sky is shining on the lush green grass.

Below me is the soft, damp, spongy green grass twinkling in the sun.

In front of me are the colourful, deciduous gnarly trees, with all their tilted and crooked branches.

Behind me is the boiling sun shining on my back, making a dark dark shadow.

A Perfect Autumn Day poem by Carlos

A Perfect Autumn Day

In front of me stood lots of deciduous trees with their rainbow leaves fluttering to the ground and sparkling dew drops all over the trees.

Above me is the shimmering moon. A Jumbo Jet comes by and breaks the barrier of silence.. Birds come swooping down tweeting away.

Below me are the glistening white rocks scattered around. Thousands of bushes around me are trying to grow.

Behind me I see a flock of tiny sparrows, pecking at a slimy worm. A ping-pong table has made the birds very interested.

Autumn must be coming!

How to write a more complex sentence

Hi everyone, here is an interesting way to work with words and sentences. I found this on Pinterest. Here is the link: http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=sentence

Piha Booklet

Over the last three or four weeks, Room 2 were working on a variety of projects to make a small Piha booklet to bring back memories of the trip. In our booklets we did the following...

A brochure, a collage, a comic life, a letter and a poem.

Miss J has given us quite allot of time, but when some room 2 students needed more time, she hesitated and then said we should be doing it as part of our homework as well. It's all about managing our time effectively.

Doing our letter was probably the main part of the project as it was not just going in our booklet, but was also being sent to the Surf Life Savers at Piha. The letters took the most time, along with the collage.

I really enjoyed making this booklet and I'm pretty sure room 2 did as well!

All About Me Poem Writing

One day while Mrs Wallace came in to room 2 to teach us, we did some just about me poems. What we had to do is we had to set it out in a certain way...

First Name,                                John (fore example)
Personality,                           Awesome, Funny, Sporty, Kind
Sibling Of,                                   Max
Lover Of,                                     Movies
Who Fears,                            Spiders and Thunder
Who Needs,                                 Love and Air
Who Gives,                                  Fun and a Good Time
Who Would Like To See,             A Chipmunk
Resident Of,                                New York
Last Name                                   freemen

Writing the Poems was really fun, especially publishing because we got to draw a picture of ourselves doing what  we love, and also a funky border. We were going to take a picture of ourselves, print it, cut it in half, and then draw the other half to it, but we were running low on time.

I recommend trying to do your own all about me poems in this format, You will hopefully enjoy it!

The Grey Paper Plane
It was a dark and stormy night in Avensdale as a grey paper plane drifted through the streets. A small girl named Eliza was out observing the small of Avensdale as the grey paper plane whizzed by. Eliza made an attempting leap and grasped the grey paper plane in her fragile hands. The plane being crinkled from the wind, Elize carefully unraveled the paper plane to see some writing, something to look  like a note. Little Eliza skimmed her eyes across the text as it slipped from her soft hand and away down Elersly street. Further down the street the paper flew, with Eliza following. Over a bridge, across a road, down a hill and into dark ally. Round the corner and... WHOOSH! the note slammed against a red brick wall, sucking the life from the unraveled paper plane. Eliza stopped, to read the rest of the message. It read..." Follow this paper and you will see a small door, Go Inside..." The paper once again slipped from hot hands and through a trap door that had suddenly appeared before her eyes. A force was pulling Eliza closer, she was startled and let out a scream, to hear no noise. Eliza put all her strength into trying to pull free, but she did not budge from the strong force. She closed her eyes tight, wishing it was all a dream. Her eyes opened to see she was in a small room with the walls closing in on her. Eliza was trapped, or though she thought. A rope stood before her, but she was too busy sobbing to lay her eyes on it. Eliza jumps up and climbs the rope but the next thing she sees is.. her house? This cant be right! Her mums voice floods into the room and Eliza turns round to hug her, Nothing, she turns round again to be sure, Eliza looks up, down up... wait. Eliza's eyes skim down again to see a minuscule, slimy, slim object slowly shuffling towards her. Eliza is too creeped to think, so she lowers herself back into the inclosing room, to see that the floor level had become higher. Her brain had just caught up to her, and Eliza remembers that the walls had probably closed by now. there is enough room to stand on top of the walls. She quarter turns and her eyes come across a hallway. The letter falls before her, but the writing was different. It read" Through one of the following three doors down this hall is a way back to your house in Avensdale, behind the other two will be some... interesting surprises. Eliza steps forward and chooses door 2.  She twists the door knob, before it opened, she heard a growl.  Getting interested she opens the door to come face to face with an orange and black hungry looking tiger. Slamming the door she runs into door one.  Opening her eyes, she sees a shelf of candy.  She unwraps a green and yellow candy piece and takes a bite, but to her surprise she grows a dragon tail.  Totally freaked, she shoves lots of candy into her mouth until she gets the right one. Eliza turns into a monkey, snake, bird, ant, Eliza, pineapple. Wait, Eliza! She ate the same piece of candy she ate before and becomes herself once more. Walking into the hall again she stands in front of the one door she hasn't entered it, door 3. She slowly enters. There is a ladder. Eliza steps five bars up, ten, twenty, fifty, then she reaches the top to see the same as before in Avensdale. She turns around, the trap door is gone. Eliza is finally home and she is the happiest girl on Earth.  The End....for now.

A recount of Piha

I did not like the bus trip because of all the windy roads made me feel sick. It was also really loud. Miss J had to blow her whistle 4 times. When we finaly got there we had time to go toilet and have a snack if we needed to. Then we started walking up to the club and meet all the surf life savers. There names are Sarah, Dani, Alicia and Patria.

We did lots of activities but my favourite was free time when you got dumped in the waves. When we got to school we took our bags back to the class and got our afternoon tea and brought it to the hall. Next we put up the tents. My tent buddies were Amy A and Kyla. We also played games back at school. I loved doing the scream run. After that our delicious dinner came I got a sousage and chips you could get fish but I didn't want it. We then played capture the orb, sadly we had to get ready for bed. To be honest it was quite nice and relaxing after a long and hard day at Piha. In the morning we had breakfast you got the option of cornflakes and wheet bix.
